11 Awesome JavaScript Effects That Developers Will Enjoy!

JavaScript can be used to do some incredible things on the web browser. Of course, the user's browser must be able to support the language.
 If you're a developer, you have most likely heard of Chrome Experiments. There are some amazing effects made using JavaScript, HTML5, webGL etc. on this website. We can help you learn the art! This is a simple starfield, which moves around as you move your mouse on the browser. It gives you a somewhat Star Wars kind of effect.


This is the ball pool effect created on your browser. You can click on white space on the browser to create new balls, drag the balls and throw them around etc.

3. Canopy

This is a fractal vector style tree zoomer. You can press play to start the animation and then click to increase the speed as the tree keeps changing. In addition, you can click on bloom and mutate options to add certain effects.


This is a many lines pattern that has been created using JavaScript. You move your mouse and many lines go all around your browser. It also allows you to choose colour etc.


This is an experiment using JavaScript and an HTML5 canvas, which allows you to viw a 3D model of various things and then rotate them to see from differet angles.


In these floating cubes show up on your browser that makes the word 'Chrome Experiment'.


In this you get spherical balls that align in different positions to form different shapes. You can go from a sphere to a simple plane to many other shapes.

8. Fish

This JavaScript effect brings some fishes onto your browser. These fishes will avoid your mouse cursor. It emulates shoals created by fishes in order to avoid predators, your cursor being the predator in this case.


This is like an underwater replication of the many lines effect. The particles move around with your mouse cursor replicating the motion of small particles kept in water.


This is a very simple mapping of RGB colourspace into a 3D model. It gives you a multi coloured cube in space.


This is a replication of the effect that you see through a kaleidoscope. This JavaScript effect uses only filled circles with opacity so te colour scheme changes everytime creating the effect.

Now Chromium Browser Ported To Ubuntu's Mir display server

Chromium running on Mir is the first and biggest step towards running Chromium in Unity 8
 In a bid to ensure a diverse browser ecosystem for the future of Ubuntu, the Chromium browser has now been ported to Mir. Canonical is planning to bring the new display server Mir along with the Ubuntu 14.04 operating system slated to release this year. Chromium is the open source web browser project from which Google Chrome draws its source code.

"As an Ubuntu developer, focused on the Ubuntu Touch mobile story, this is even more exciting though! Chromium running on Mir is the first and biggest step towards running Chromium in Unity 8, ensuring a diverse browser ecosystem for the future of Ubuntu", Mir team engineer, Robert Carr was quoted as saying. The porting involves an Ozone port that comprises of a toolkit abstraction Layer for Aura. "We can think about Ozone for Aura much the way we think of QPA for Qt. Of course as many of you have heard before 'There are unique requirements'. Ozone's design is influenced heavily by the multi process architecture of Chromium and the requirements of ChromeOS". Carr added.

Earlier we reported that some of Linux's most popular games will now run natively on Ubuntu's Mir display server. This has been made possible after Simple Direct Media layer (SDL) gained support for Mir. It must be noted that SDL is a part of many high-profile games and the number keeps rising with each day.

SDL is a cross-platform development library that provides game developers with a simplified way to access audio and input devices through OpenGL. With the versatility and simplicity it brings to the table, SDL is currently being used in more than 700 games. So much so that the list also includes the Linux ports of popular titles available on Valve’s Steam client and via the Humble Bundle. With Mir and SDL together, games using it will run natively under Unity 8 on Mir. SDL also supports Wayland in a similar way.
