Here Are 10 Tips For Agile Testing!

Looking for some tips on Agile Software development? Look no more, here we bring 10 top tips on Agile Software Development. Happy testing!

Agile Testing, Tips, Agile Software development, testers, testers, risk, unit tests, automation framework , quality metrics, test scrum, test retrospectives

1. Integrate the testers in the development teams

-By integrating testers who have the right knowledge into development teams, the teams responsible for delivering software, obtain the right skills to test their software whether it meets expected requirements and quality.

2. Use risk based testing

-In case of Agile projects testers have to make choices about how extensively they are intending to test each and every feature in a time bound scenario. Therefore, testing involves a certain amount of risk to ascertain which test activities they are going to carry out for every feature. Which test activities are executed depends largely on the choice of the customer and the teams, with the entire process being extremely transparent.

3. Have testers review unit tests

-Having testers review the unit tests has many advantages. For instance, testers and developers mutually supplement each other leading to an improved unit test. Further, it makes the testers know exactly which test cases are executed in the unit tests. They can then concentrate on executing other test cases.

4. Create a test automation framework and appoint a toolsmith

-New features might introduce problems that can be difficult to detect. To avoid the same, automated testing is a very handy tool. Creating a test automation framework helps retain quality levels during the iteration. Further, the presence of a dedicated test engineer ensures testers can spend more time creating and extending automated tests.

5. Display quality metrics in a public location

-Publicly displaying the actual metrics of problems, the percentage of successful unit tests and the current state of the continuous build means the information is available for all to view rather than being just another number in some random system.

6. Add a test scrum

-In cases where the testers are distributed across several teams, using a test scrum to align the test activities is very helpful as it improves communication. The test manager is the ScrumMaster of the test scrum.

7. Implement test retrospectives

-A retrospective meeting held at the end of the iteration wherein the team discusses the process, the positives as well as the negatives provides a platform for testers to learn new ways to improve their tests.

8. Plan for open problems

-By effectively planning the management of the open problems, chances that they are forgotten and then pile up become null and void.

9. Remember: Testing is still testing

-Testers could still make use of traditional test techniques while testing in an Agile software project, the same will of course depend upon risk category. Testers should strive to use a formal test technique without having to deliver extensive test documentation.

10. Start doing it!

-Rather than talking explicitly about the introduction of testers and the kind of test approach would be 'perfect', go and start doing it! You're bound to make mistakes, however, the sooner you begin chances are the sooner you will learn and improve upon your test approach.
